Lean, brooding and layered with spice: this single vineyard Syrah from Smith’s Gully shows off a cooler climate site, revealing the variety’s more savoury side. The nose offers a bouquet of dark berry fruit, freshly cracked pepper and...
Fruit was hand-picked and fermented in open top stainless-steel vats with a mix of crushed and whole berry fruit. After fermentation, the wine was basket-pressed and transferred by gravity to barrel for maturation in a single one-year-old puncheon for 36 months. No fining or filtration. Serve at room temperature. Decant prior to drinking to enhance integration of fruit, spice and structure.
Tasting Note
A bouquet of dark berry fruit, freshly cracked pepper and pencil shavings rises from the glass. The palate is supple yet mouth filling, layered with red and black berry fruit, blood orange pith and fine-grained tannins that give way to a long, peppery finish.
