Our Chenin Blanc vines grow on a north-east facing slope, planted on an acre block at the lower west side of the property. Ripe, hand-picked fruit was lightly crushed and gently basket-pressed to tank. Juice was gravity-fed to oak for fermentation by wild yeast, followed by partial spontaneous malolactic conversion. Matured on lees in old French oak for 15 months with light lees stirring for added richness and complexity.
Tasting Note
Intensely perfumed with vibrant aromas of just ripe apricots, golden apples, white blossom along with hints of wood spice and cream. Like the nose, unbridled fruit immediately captures your attention, bursting on the palate with ripe yellow peaches and apples. Time reveals savoury complexity from well-integrated oak and lees contact imparting creaminess and notes of saline, biscuit and fresh dough. Bold fruit and rounded texture are well-matched within a framework of tart, tangy acidity that crescendos on the palate with a long peachy finish.
95+ Points, Halliday Wine Companion
"Dry-grown chenin blanc matured in older French oak. A bright honey gold with green tinges. With its aromas of ripe red apple, honeysuckle, almond and gentle vanillin from the well-handled oak, there's a lot going on here. It's just as good on the concentrated, silky and very long palate. It's good now but will continue to evolve over the next three to five years." - Philip Rich
